Inclusivity and Acknowledgment:

ACLP Updates and Strategic Directions:
The meeting emphasized the separation of ACLP from the Child Life Certification Commission (CLCC), especially after the CLCC’s recent NCCA accreditation, highlighting its independent governance structure.
Disaster Relief Support:
ACLP is supporting Child Life Disaster Relief with a $1,000 donation to help children and families affected by Hurricane Helen and the impending Hurricane Milton. Members were encouraged to contribute as well.
Higher Education Act Amendments:
The group discussed the impact of the recent amendments to the Higher Education Act, which will require academic institutions to offer clinical or externship opportunities related to professional credentialing. This poses potential challenges, given the current internship shortage.
NCCA Accreditation:
Congratulations were extended to the Child Life Certification Commission for achieving NCCA accreditation. This milestone affirms the credibility and rigor of the Certified Child Life Specialist credential and enhances the profession’s reputation.
Financial Updates:
The ACLP’s financial status remains stable, with a focus on responsible asset management. The treasurer provided insights into revenue streams, key expenses, and current ratio analysis, which indicate financial health above desired levels.
Bylaws and Governance Review:
Several changes to ACLP bylaws are underway, particularly to clarify the independent governance of CLCC. Members will have the opportunity to vote on these updates in the upcoming voting period from November 1 to November 30.
Strategic Plan Preview:
A sneak peek of the upcoming 3-year strategic plan highlighted three core focus areas:
1. Strengthening identity and belonging within ACLP.
2. Enhancing strategic partnerships and collaborations.
3. Advancing professional development and training for child life specialists.
The new strategic plan will be shared with the child life community in early 2025.
Headquarters Update:
ACLP is transitioning to a fully virtual office, with updates on the new mailing address and ensuring smooth operations despite no longer having a physical office.
