Accessing Research

The following resources for accessing research are recommended by the CLC Evidence-Based Practice Committee:

Online Resources

PubMed (www.pubmed.gov) – PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, includes over 15 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950's. These citations are from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

CINAHL Nursing Database (http://www.mclibrary.duke.edu/respub/guides/ovidcin.html) -- This nursing database is CINAHL (nursing and allied heath) and can be accessed from most college libraries, medical libraries, and hospital research centers.

Child Life Annotated Bibliography -- The CLC Evidence-Based Practice Committee has developed the Child Life Annotated Bibliography of research-related literature for use by child life specialists and others interested in the child life profession. The purpose of the bibliography is to promote the integration of research in child life practice to enhance and validate professional interventions. In order to keep the bibliography current, child life professionals are encouraged to submit further annotations to the Child Life Council Research Committee.

Publications available through CLC

Evidence-Based Practice Committee

Each year, the Evidence-Based Practice Committee creates a poster session for the CLC Annual Conference on Professional Issues. Since 2005, the committee has presented information on how to conduct research in order to promote more independent research among child life professionals. Please note, the poster presentations are available in PowerPoint format only.

Poster Sessions

The Evidence-Based Practice Committee is dedicated to providing CLC members with up-to-date research, and provides an evidence-based article in each issue of the Bulletin, usually in the form of a research review.  If you are conducting research or have any suggestions for the committee, please email membership@childlife.org.
