Child Life Council Membership Categories

Professional Membership

A professional member is employed or seeking employment as a child life specialist, or works as an educator of child life students at the college or university level. 

BENEFITS 

Dues are $120 U.S. per year (which works out to $10/month!)

Student Membership

(Includes Interns)

Student membership is designed for full-time students at the undergraduate or graduate level , or for those currently enrolled in a child life internship. To obtain the discounted rate, students must email, fax (301-881-7092), or mail ("Attn: Membership") proof that they are currently enrolled full-time (9 or more credits, unless full-time is otherwise defined by their institution).

Important Note for New Student Members:

Your membership will be considered "pending" until proof of your current full-time student or internship status is received and approved by CLC. Benefits will not be activated until CLC receives and approves student status.

Associate Membership

Associate members are individuals who come from another discipline or profession, but want to remain informed about issues affecting child life. Associate members include members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team (such as doctors and nurses), educators, parents, vendors and corporate supporters, and other concerned members of the public that are involved or interested in child life. Also included in this category are part-time students, and child life specialists who are not currently working in the profession. Associate members are entitled to most of the same benefits as professional members; however, they do not have voting privileges and cannot hold voting positions on the Executive Board.

Dues are $95 U.S. per year (which works out to $8.00/month!)

Special Membership Categories

Retired Membership: Designed for CLC professional members who have retired.  Retired membership is only available to individuals with a minimum of three years of previous professional membership with CLC. Please contact the CLC office at 1-800-CLC-4515, ext. 11 or membership@childlife.org for more information.

Special Circumstances Membership: Designed for those who have held professional membership in the past, but are currently unable to work.  In order to be eligible for this status (limit one year per member), a written request by the applicant is required. Please contact the CLC office at 1-800-CLC-4515, ext. 11 or membership@childlife.org for more information.

BENEFITS 

Indivduals who qualify for retired or special circumstance membership retain the same benefits as professional members. View Professional Member Benefits

Joining fee for new and rejoining members     

All new and rejoining members (except students) will be charged a one-time administrative fee of $25 U.S. in addition to the base membership dues.  A rejoining member is defined as an individual whose previous membership with CLC has expired. To avoid this fee, active members should renew their membership before their expiration date.  Please log in and visit your CLC User Profile for more information about your membership.
